Who says goddamn slavery is extinct?

The Day My God Died
I was totally shattered when I saw this documentary on human trafficking in Mumbai...though I was previously informed by many news paper articles and tv programs about the human trafficking in India, this was a very close and detailed report (though a couple of years old) by International Justice Mission.
It starts with how girls are drugged, tricked and kidnapped from the villages of India and Nepal and wake up to find themselves in the red-light district of Mumbai. They are made to drink liquor and sleep with the men who come and if they disagree they would be beaten up and raped by the pimps.
According to the reports, a decade ago the girls in red-light district were in their 20s or 30s but now the average age is 14! They are forced to serve around 15-25 clients a day, and have around 15 bloody painful abortions..I mean what the heck!
-Tears involuntarily came down my cheeks... anger, pain, empathy.-
It was evident from their horrified, innocent faces how much they had to bear. Surely, none of them would say they love to live in dungeons and serve the shameless men who come there, or be slaves for the pimps, willingly. Clearly from the video and otherwise, the police men who are supposed to stop such atrocities are totally blinded and bribed by the pimps. Its a shame to the humanity that such slavery still exists.
This flesh trade not only is an evidence of the growing demon in man but also like a Frankenstein, is ruining the humanity. Until now, 22million people died with HIV and its sick to know that, of those, almost one fourth are children.

Some silver lining..
-evidence that world still has remnants of, the now rare quality, humanity...-
Shri Anuradha Koirala..., the apostle of love, says..“First you have to learn to take them as your own child. Then you will feel the sorrow and then the strength comes out from you to protect them.” She founded Maiti Nepal, meaning Mother's House, in 1993 to rehabilitate and support girls and women who have been trafficked from Nepal to India, against their will, to be sexual slaves in brothels. She is being a loving mother to those who are even neglected by their familes since they have HIV or STDs. She is being their gaurdian angel and giving them life in the little time they have...
Organizations like Sanlaap, Sphoorthi, Groupe Developpement South Asia are doing some effective work, in building rehabilitation homes and medical centers for taking care of the children and women who were affected and infected by the Frankenstein.

ok..Now creating awareness is important- but what are we going to do about it?...
The speaker in the video says for a problem so prevalent "the first line of defense is prevention". How do we prevent?

"The U. S. Congress passed the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The Department of State collects information about the progress of countries with a trafficking problem and then ranks the countries according to what action they have taken on the problem. Countries that do not make progress can lose their non-humanitarian foreign aid. This is an opportunity to make a powerful statement about one of the most serious human rights abuses in today’s world: the trafficking of girls and young women into forced prostitution."
